November Technique Class: Mosaics & Masking

This month's focus is on Mosaic & Masking techniques. The first card is a Mosaic card that was made by cutting the graphic image up into pieces and then reassembling like a puzzle leaving some spaces between the pieces. As I reassembled the pieces, I did need to do some trimming to get them to line up squarely on the black cardstock. The stamped images are on Shimmery white cardstock and then I added some extra sparkle highlights with my Stardust pen (see an example of this in the image below).
Stamps: Doodle This, Wonderful Words
Inks: Basic Black, Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss
Papers: Shimmery White, Basic Black, Pacific Point, Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Black grosgrain ribbon, Gelly Roll Stardust gel pen

This month I couldn't hold myself back from making 2 Holiday cards. This one uses a masking technique that I think is sometimes referred to as Faux tearing. I started with Very Vanilla cardstock and covered part of it with a torn piece of scrap paper. I then sponged red ink over the uncovered portion and also stamped some snow flakes. It gives the appearance of 2 sheets of paper all on one sheet.

Stamps: Sincere Salutations, Winter Post
Inks: Ridinghood Red, Chocolate Chip
Papers: Very Vanilla, Chocolate Chip, Ridinghood Red, Kraft
Accessories: Scallop Circle punch, Alpine Ribbon Originals

This last Christmas card is both a mosaic card and a masking card. I created a window template using some cardstock and a square punch. I layed this over my white cardstock before sponging and stamping my design. When the template was removed, this cute mosaic remains.

Stamps: Season of Joy
Inks: Rose Red, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black
Papers: Natural White, Basic Black Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Black Grosgrain, Black Brad, Little Felt Flurry

October Scrapbooking

I had fun creating this month's scrapbook pages for my monthly class. It's always a treat to pull out the halloween papers and autumn colors for a change. This month's themes included Halloween, Fall, and a generic layout (which actually uses some Fall colors as well). I really can't explain what goes through my head when I'm designing these pages. The creative process is still quite mysterious. But you've probably noticed that my layouts have become very "square" in nature and this month I used very little stamping, probably because I don't currently have a lot of Halloween and Fall themed stamp sets. Therefore, all of these pages highlight some of the beautiful patterned papers that I've acquired over the past few months.
