January Technique Class: Resisting

Every month I'm doing a Technique class now, which so far has been a lot of fun! This month I focused on a few different kinds of "resisting." The first card uses the crayon resist technique. This was my favorite card of the night, I just love this technique and these colors. The basic approach for crayon resist is to use a white crayon on white glossy paper to resist ink that is sponged on top of it. Stamps: Doodle This, Sincere Salutations
Papers: Old Olive, Whisper White, Glossy White, Black,
Inks: black, Old Olive, Perfect Plum
Accessories: Black grosgrain ribbon


This card was made using Versamark Resist, sometimes called "ghosting." The basic principle here is apply Versamark to glossy cardstock, and then after it dries, apply ink and the versamark will resist the ink. I applied the celery ink with a brayer on the background of this one. The design of this card was CASEd from DCPapercraft on Splitcoast Stampers (http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/700957?cat=7490).

This last card uses the technique of Embossing Resist. Instead of crayon and versamark, you actually emboss an image to resist with. For this one I didn't use glossy paper, but I think you could if you wanted to. I embossed the solid white butterflies and then applied the coral ink and stamped some more images on top.

In addition to the cards that I made during my Stamp a Stack last month, I made 2 additional sets of cards to send to my loved ones. I finally got them out in the mail today!

A punchy idea

I have to share this neat technique that I saw on my Mom's Christmas card which I received a couple of days ago. First of all, what a cute and fun card using that woven ribbon as photo corners and the silver star brad on top of the tree! As I looked closely at the card I realized that the red balls on the Christmas tree were not drawn on the tree. She punched holes in the tree to reveal the red cardstock underneath. Very creative idea! By doing this she ensured that all the ornaments are exactly the same size and are solid red (without green branches running through them)....a nice clean look. Great job Mom!

Kim Fritz sent me this beautiful RAK for my birthday. It was such a nice surprise to receive it last week. I am so thankful to be a part of this community of stampers. Thank you Kim for brightening my day.

I aplogize to all of you for not posting in such a long time. We've had a busy and challenging couple of months here at home, in addition to the craziness that the holiday season brings. I'm hoping to have a few posts this month, including pictures of my Christmas cards (which are almost done!).

I'm excited that I'll be teaching a monthly technique class starting in January, and I look forward to sharing ideas corresponding to a variety of techniques in the new year.

Simple Holiday Cards

I'm so excited that last night I finished designing the holiday cards for my upcoming "Stamp-a-Stack". Since we will be making 4 of each of these cards, it was important to make sure that the cards were simple and quick. I discovered this after last year's Stamp-a-Stack when I incorporated too many fancy techniques.

I think this one is my favorite of the 4. I just love these colors. You can't really tell from the photo but I put dazzling diamonds on the swirls and star of the tree for some extra sparkle.

This is another one using Season of Joy...I just love how I didn't
